The Saylorville Lake is 26,000 acres, which stretches for over 50 miles up the Des Moines River Valley. Activities include fishing, picnic areas with group shelters, boat launches, an accessible fishing pier, river fishing, hunting, and a 24-mile paved, multipurpose trail used for biking, hiking, jogging, walking, and in-line skating.

Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge
5600 Acres of prarie, home to diverse wildlife including Buffalo and Elk Herds, birds of all sorts and an oak Savanna….It is a great place to learn thru activities such as monarch tagging, seed collecting. They also have days for guided hikes, photography and more.
High Trestle Trail Bridge….West of Madrid, Iowa
Bridge crosses the Des Moines River Valley. There are viewing platforms along the crossing.
